"I wish to help children overcome their past troubles, help them discover who they are and what they are capable of."
Autum Dusky - former student and winner of the C.J.G. Cretekos Scholarship for Ward Home students pursuing higher education
"Life is full of people trying to make it, and when they do, they forget about others of whom they could help. People are stuck in a situation that they have trouble finding their way through. I have learned that education is the key to opening the door of opportunities and that I must not be ignorant in the aspect of having knowledge in all types. My future lies in my hands and only I can direct its path. To me, education is power and without it, I will never have the power of wisdom that I desire. I want to graduate with honors and provide a stable environment for myself. Therefore, regardless of whether or not I receive the C.J.G. Cretekos Scholarship, I still plan and will succeed."

Cretekos Scholarship for Ward Home students
"The Independent Living Program has helped me in so many ways over the years.
I just want to start off by saying thank you for the support of each staff member. I
had started out in a shelter, and then I went from a shelter to a group home. I
struggled through life, but the Independent Living Program at Ward Home helped
me in so many ways. When I thought I could not do it anymore, the staff at Ward Home
advised me the best they could to help me succeed in reaching all the goals I set out
to accomplish. The reason I want to be a social worker is because I know how it feels
to go through what the youth, with no permanent roof over their heads, go through on
a day-to-day basis. I can relate to their struggles. I am planning to attend Point State
Park University to achieve this goal. I don't know where I would be right now if it were
not for Ward Home. I hope this letter inspires at least one person, like me, to go out
there and be successful. So please read this over carefully because the one person I
am looking to reach out to could be you."
